About Us

Disaster Management and Research Foundation (DiMaRF) came into being on 26th January 2001 and was registered as an NGO, “Not for Profit” organization in 2003 with the Charity Commissioner Nashik under the registration number: Maharashtra/7825/Nashik/2003. India had been facing many natural and human induced hazards in the previous decades and suffered tremendous losses, destruction and financial set-backs. While the government tried its best to deal with the hazards, it was necessary for the community to strengthen and enhance its resilience. That was the motive behind creating the NGO.
The Organization is governed by its constitution and the Standing Operating Procedures. There is an elected Board of Trustees, a Working Committee and other Office Bearers, all experienced in the field of Disaster Management. Regular meetings are held to plan activities and respond during any disasters.
Presently membership is open to Indian Citizen. Members are given basic training in First Aid, Firefighting, simple Rescue Techniques and Relief Operations.

Aims & Objectives OF THE DiMaRF

Aims

  • Resource Creation: To assist in identifying needs, creating and deploying resources for enhancing resilience.
  • Training and Capacity Building: To train technical and non-technical personnel and volunteers of the organization to enhance their capacity to mitigate and respond during disasters.
  • Undertake R&D of new techniques to meet the challenges obtainable in Indian environment.
  • Community’s Capacity Building: To create awareness among the masses and making them conversant with hazards, their effects, prevention, mitigation and response to the same. Through this, make the community prepared to withstand the hazards.

Objectives

  • To conduct all relevant studies in disaster management including ‘Risk Analysis’ independently and in conjunction with the Government authorities as well as experts in the field and evaluate and recommend strengthening of the existing ‘ Warning Systems’
  • To assist the govt. authorities in eliciting timely and appropriate response from the agencies and masses likely to be affected and channelizing their spontaneous reactions.
  • Supplement the govt. efforts in search, rescue and relief operations and thereby work for minimizing ill-effects of the disasters.
  • Act as the nodal agency to coordinate the deployment of relief material, supplies and manpower of all the NGO’s.
  • Organizing training of people from different segments of the society to boost up their capacities to prevent disasters and minimize their effects. This will include theoretical as well as practical training. For this purpose, standardized training capsules will be prepared. Data collection pertaining to latest techniques available in the world and upgrading training of the permanent staff of the organization will also form part of the training activity.
  • To create a pool of trained volunteers who will facilitate generation of local help and actual training and disaster mitigation efforts.
  • Prepare and / or publish literature and other training aids on the subject of disaster management, as per requirement, in appropriate languages.
  • To conduct research on disaster related subjects and synthesize the findings with those obtained by other national and international organizations.
  • To carry out any other activity including offering of consulting services to government and Private/ Public Sector enterprises. On the subject of disaster prevention and management and security systems of various kinds.
